Only the River Flows is a masterfully crafted story that draws the audience in and keeps them engaged throughout. Set in 1990s rural China, a woman’s body is found by the river. Chief of Police, Ma Zhe, heads up the murder investigation that leads to a swift and obvious arrest. Despite the apparent resolution, and with congratulations still ringing in his ears from his superiors, Ma Zhe is pushed to investigate further. He must deep dive into the hidden behaviour of his fellow citizens in order to solve the elusive clues that remain.
